What does the business offer? The business is an online flower shop with a focus on wedding flowers. Our customers browse our online catalogue and choose the collection that fits their wedding palette. The flower collections are created from flowers that are typically available all year round, so customers can easily visualize what they're getting. When we receive an order, we input it into our template which tells us what flowers and how many stems to order. The flowers are delivered to us by our wholesaler and we make them. We partner with delivery drivers and setup vendors for couples who require venue setup. The concept is very popular (67 five-star Google reviews) and we are a preferred vendor for many Toronto wedding venues. The website is www.laceandbloom.com.
What is the financial standing of the business? There is $57k of profits built up in the company and held in GICs, owned by the company. In addition there is approx. $6k of operating capital. This is a cashflow positive business, so you get full payment from customers before placing any flower orders. If you’re able to run this business from home (no rent), it is reasonable to expect $20k annually in net profits. There is plenty of room for growth.
Is there anything else I should know? The way we work is different to other wedding florists in that we have pre-designed flower collections, from which our couples can choose. This model allows us to keep our pricing very competitive, because everything has been pre-designed and less time needs to be spent establishing the design at the outset. Our couples appreciate the ease with which they can choose their flowers and the transparent pricing. This is atypical for wedding florists in Ontario but it is very popular.
